Steve (Jeremy Irons), the incoming cabinet minister, lives a peaceful life with his wife Ingrid and son Martin (Rupert Graves). The appearance of Anna (Juliette Binoche) is like a turbulent undercurrent that hits this seemingly perfect family. Anna is his son's girlfriend, but she has a passionate and romantic relationship with Steve behind his back.
